Fundada durante la Guerra de Independencia de Grecia por refugiados de otras islas, pronto se convirti\u00f3 en el principal puerto del pa\u00eds y en un importante centro comercial.<\/p>\n<p>La ciudad floreci\u00f3 durante el siglo XIX, y muchos edificios de esa \u00e9poca le dan una apariencia neocl\u00e1sica muy distintiva. Aunque sufri\u00f3 algunas dificultades en el siglo XX, se ha recuperado en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os gracias al turismo.<\/p>\n<p>Hoy es una ciudad maravillosa y llena de vida. Es la ciudad principal de la isla de <strong>Siros<\/strong>, la capital de las <strong>C\u00edcladas<\/strong> y el centro administrativo de la <strong>Regi\u00f3n del Egeo Meridional<\/strong>. La ciudad se eleva desde el puerto hacia las colinas y monta\u00f1as que la rodean. Su casco antiguo es un laberinto de calles paralelas y perpendiculares al mar.<\/p>\n<p>Camina hacia el norte del puerto siguiendo la costa. Algunos de los mejores restaurantes y tabernas est\u00e1n aqu\u00ed. Gira a la izquierda y luego a la derecha en la <strong>calle peatonal Parou<\/strong>. Aqu\u00ed encontrar\u00e1s una sombra muy bienvenida y muchas tiendas locales encantadoras. Siros sigue siendo una de las <a href=\"https:\/\/inlovewithgreece.com\/es\/islas-griegas-menos-turisticas-que-deberias-visitar-ahora\/\"><strong>islas griegas menos visitadas<\/strong><\/a>, as\u00ed que probablemente no te topar\u00e1s con grandes multitudes.<\/p>\n<p>Otra zona que debes explorar es <strong>Vaporia<\/strong>, al noreste del puerto. Camina hasta la plaza principal y luego sigue las calles M. Merkouri y Agiou Nikolaou hasta llegar a este encantador barrio. Su imponente apariencia neocl\u00e1sica es \u00fanica en toda Grecia. Aqu\u00ed se encuentran el Ayuntamiento, el Centro Cultural Municipal, el Museo Arqueol\u00f3gico y dos tribunales.<\/p>\n<p>El impresionante <strong>Ayuntamiento <\/strong>fue dise\u00f1ado por el renombrado arquitecto alem\u00e1n Ernst Ziller (quien tambi\u00e9n dise\u00f1\u00f3 muchos edificios neocl\u00e1sicos en Atenas). Combina perfectamente la arquitectura cl\u00e1sica griega con el romanticismo occidental.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c1rboles frondosos se levantan sobre la parte norte y sur de la plaza, y hay varias cafeter\u00edas donde puedes sentarte a descansar. El Ayuntamiento est\u00e1 abierto de lunes a viernes de 8:00 a 15:00. El <strong>Teatro Apolo<\/strong> fue dise\u00f1ado por un arquitecto italiano y est\u00e1 inspirado en La Scala de Mil\u00e1n. Se inaugur\u00f3 en 1864 con el \u2018Rigoletto\u2019 de Verdi.<\/p>\n<p>El edificio ha sido restaurado en m\u00e1s de una docena de ocasiones. A diferencia de su modesto exterior, el interior presenta una rica decoraci\u00f3n, incluido techos pintados, l\u00e1mparas elegantes y esculturas cl\u00e1sicas.<\/p>\n<p>Hoy en d\u00eda, el teatro organiza una variedad de eventos, desde obras teatrales y conciertos hasta exposiciones de arte. Muchos festivales culturales se celebran en este edificio. La <strong>iglesia de Agios Nikolaos<\/strong> es la m\u00e1s impresionante. Es una iglesia de m\u00e1rmol con columnas, dos altas torres de campanario y una gran c\u00fapula. La reconocer\u00e1s por sus colores amarillo, azul y rojo.<\/p>\n<p>La <strong>Iglesia de la Transfiguraci\u00f3n del Salvador<\/strong> (tambi\u00e9n conocida como Iglesia de la Metamorfosis) es la m\u00e1s antigua de la ciudad. Es una bas\u00edlica de tres naves con una c\u00fapula y dos campanarios, similar a la iglesia de Panagia en <a href=\"https:\/\/inlovewithgreece.com\/es\/que-ver-y-hacer-en-tinos-en-las-cicladas\/\"><strong>Tinos<\/strong><\/a>. Sirve como sede episcopal.<\/p>\n<p>La tercera iglesia imprescindible es la de la <strong>Asunci\u00f3n de la Virgen Mar\u00eda<\/strong>. Es otra bas\u00edlica de tres naves con c\u00fapula, famosa por su icono bizantino creado por El Greco. Sin embargo, eso no es del todo cierto. <strong>Asteria<\/strong> puede que no sea la playa de arena con la que siempre so\u00f1aste, pero s\u00ed, es una playa.<\/p>\n<p>Nos encanta Asteria por sus incre\u00edbles vistas del casco antiguo. La imponente iglesia de Agios Nikolaos se alza sobre la playa, creando un escenario de postal.<\/p>\n<p>Es una franja rectangular de hormig\u00f3n con sombrillas. Los lugare\u00f1os vienen aqu\u00ed a relajarse y nadar, y hasta puedes ver patos y gansos. Exhibe muebles antiguos, ropa, pinturas, cartas y postales.<\/p>\n<p>El <strong>Museo Arqueol\u00f3gico de Siros<\/strong>, dentro del Ayuntamiento, no es tan grande como los de Atenas o Heracli\u00f3n, pero a\u00fan as\u00ed vale la pena. La <strong>Galer\u00eda de Arte de las C\u00edcladas<\/strong> organiza interesantes exposiciones temporales.<\/p>\n<p>Si tienes tiempo, tambi\u00e9n merecen una visita el <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ketepo.gr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Museo Industrial<\/strong><\/a> y el <strong>Museo Textil<\/strong>. Uno de los paseos m\u00e1s bonitos es desde el centro de la ciudad hasta el pueblo medieval de <strong>Ano Syros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Este precioso pueblo fue construido en el siglo XIII por los venecianos. Originalmente un asentamiento cat\u00f3lico, a\u00fan conserva muchas iglesias, incluida la imponente <strong>Catedral de San Jorge<\/strong>.
