Where to Stay in Nafplio: the Best Hotels, Guesthouses and Apartments

Nafplio is one of Greece’s nicest towns. We discovered it a couple of years ago and fell in love instantly. The city lies on the eastern shore of the Peloponnese, some 80 miles (135 km) from Athens. That’s why we go there when we want to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital.

However, Nafplio is so beautiful, that you must spend at least a couple of nights there. In particular in its Old Town. The historic quarter has it all: gorgeous architecture, stunning views, cute little plazas, and delicious restaurants and bars.

Where to stay in Nafplio

Grande Bretagne

Luxury Hotel

We are architects, so we love staying in historic hotels. The best luxury hotel in Nafplio is the Grande Bretagne. We spent a weekend there, and had a great time. The hotel was built as a mansion in 1842. It was the Greek’s headquarters during the war with Italy in 1940. Then the Nazis occupied it, followed by the British in 1944.

The Grande Bretagne faces the sea and Bourtzi Castle. Thus, you can walk everywhere in no time. The rooms are extra comfy. Be sure to ask for a sea view room with a balcony. The complimentary breakfast is superb!

Nafsimedon Hotel

Midrange Hotel

The Nafsimedon Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Grande Bretagne. The neoclassical 19th Century mansion is in front of Naflplio’s nicest park, Kolokotronis. The top floor rooms have awesome views of Palamidi fortress.

However, what we remember the most is having breakfast in the hotel’s garden. The rooms are big and feature antique furniture. We believe this hotel is perfect for solo travelers and couples. It even has a cool bar facing the fortress.

Vasilis Hotel

Budget Hotel

You won’t get better rooms at this price than at the Vasilis Hotel. It’s located on the slope of the hill that towers above Nafplio. Therefore, green nature surrounds it. The top floor rooms offer awesome pics over Palamidi Fortress and the sea.

The rooms are like studios, and come with a fully equipped kitchenette and balconies. Everything is clean and in great shape. You can park for free in front. The lady that runs the hotel is lovely and gave us fantastic tips.

Pension Dafni

Guesthouse

Pension Dafni is another neoclassical beauty in the Old Town. It’s at the foot of the hill, some 600 feet (200 m) from Arvanitia Beach. In fact, you can walk to the coast and Palamidi’s path in 5 minutes. The path is under the cliffs and next to the sea. It takes you to cute little beaches.

If you are traveling with family, book the Deluxe Family Room. It’s extra big and has two bunk beds, a double bed, and a sofa.

Xenon Inn

Guesthouse

Nafplio’s epicenter is Syntagma Square, in the heart of the Old Town. The Xenon Inn is a beautifully restored mansion directly on the plaza, opposite the Archaeological Museum. However, it’s perfectly isolated and very quiet.

The plaza is big and enjoys a fantastic atmosphere. It’s the best place to sit down and people watch. There are several tavernas and bars around. You can walk everywhere, including the beach and the fortress.

Navria by Aetoma

Aparthotel

The Navria by Aetoma is on a cute little plaza in the heart of the Old Town. The traditional building has been refurbished to include modern day conveniences. Though the rooms have retained a classic feel, they are modern and super comfy.

We stayed in a deluxe one with a balcony overlooking the city. It was perfect. Akis and his mom were fantastic hosts.

Harmony Rooms

Aparthotel

You will love the location of Harmony Rooms Nafplio. It faces the sea! It’s a 20 minute walk north of the Old Town. That’s why it’s so quiet. The rooms are big and come with a balcony with city and/or sea views.

We used their bicycles to go to the Old Town and to explore the rest of Nafplio. The hotel has a terrace where you can enjoy the delicious complimentary breakfast. Plenty of parking too!

Amalia Hotel

Rural Hotel

If you want to experience rural Greece but next to Nafplio, book a room at the Amalia Hotel. The hotel is 2 miles (3.4 km) from the Old Town. It sits on a big lot surrounded by fields. Thus, you get unobstructed views of the garden and hills.

The rooms open to the garden and have an outdoor sitting area. The outdoor pool is huge. You can park for free. We stayed once here during peak season, and enjoyed coming back to chill in this peaceful oasis after a day in the city.
