Where to Stay in Skopelos: the Best Hotels and Beaches
Skopelos is one of less touristy islands in Greece. We discovered it ages ago and fell in love instantly. Since then, we’ve been back several times and always have a great time.
Though the island is not that big, it’s pretty diverse. That’s why deciding where you want to stay in Skopelos is essential to fully enjoy your trip.
From quiet beaches, to cute little towns, Skopelos has it all. Every time we visit the island we try somewhere new. That’s why we have all the information you need to make the right choice.

Skopelos Town
A tight bigger than Skiathos, Skopelos is the biggest island in the Sporades archipelago. It’s also the greenest. Trees cover more than 80% of the island.
The biggest town is Skopelos Town, on the northeastern coast. Locals call it Chora. It’s a small town on the slopes of a hill. It’s got all sorts of bars, restaurants, taverns, and shops.
To be honest, the beaches here are not the best. However, buses and vans connect you to the entire island in no time. Thus, stay here if you want to move around the island.
We Recommend These Hotels in Skopelos Town
Skopelos Village Hotel
The best hotels in Skopelos town face the sea. Our favorite is the Skopelos Village Hotel. The 5 star property is close to the port. It’s got two pools and super comfy rooms.
Aeolos Hotel
The Aeolos Hotel is near the only beach in the city. It’s got two fantastic pools and a superb terrace with lounges. The rooms have balconies and fantastic views.
Stafylos
Stafylos is the closest beach to Skopelos town. Buses and vans travel the 3 miles (4 km) frequently. Since it’s on the south of the island it’s not windy.
This is the best area to stay if you love the beach but want to be close to the main town. We usually stay here when visiting Skopelos for a couple of days.
There are a handful of hotels and taverns in Stafylos and some of the nicest gardens in Skopelos. The beach is amongst the nicest in Greece. It’s got an organized section and a free one.
We Recommend These Hotels in Stafylos
Mando Beachfront
We usually stay at the Mando Beachfront. The hotel is on a slope just meters from the beach. Green gardens surround it. The rooms are great and the views unforgettable.
Poseidon
The Poseidon is pretty close to the bus station, the local tavern, and the beach. It’s got a superb garden and a big pool. It offers fully equipped apartments with unforgettable views.

Agnontas
Agnontas is a tiny fishing town on the southwest of Stafylos. It’s the alternative port when the weather closes the main port. Buses and vans connect it to the entire island.
It’s basically a tiny bay under the hills surrounded by thousands of beautiful trees. It only has a handful of hotels, a superb tavern and a church.
We love it because the sea is super calm, so we can swim and snorkel safely. The beach is small and pebbled. That’s about it: Agnontas is super quiet, especially at nights.
We Recommend These Hotels in Agnontas
Agnontas Luxury Villas
You have to book a minimum of three nights at the Agnontas Luxury Villas. The units are huge and have their own private pool. It doesn’t get any better than this.
Vithos
The Vithos is one of the least expensive accommodation options on the island. It’s got fully equipped studios and apartments. The beds are comfortable and the vibe pretty authentic.

Panormos
Panormos is the best place to stay if you are a beach bunny. It’s on the western coast of the island, about 9 miles (12 km) from Skopelos Town.
The pebbled beach is enclosed by a bay. We like it because it’s wide, so we always have enough space, even in high season. Besides, there’s a paid section with umbrellas and a free one.
The little town next to the coast is lovely. You can walk to Adrinas Beach in no time. We usually loop around the rocks and continue walking to Milia Beach.
We Recommend These Hotels in Panormos
Adrina Resort & Spa
The Adrina Resort & Spa is probably the best hotel on the island. It’s got its own beach with umbrellas and a massive sea salt pool. The rooms are fantastic!
Blue Green Bay
We had a great time at the Blue Green Bay. The hotel is on the beach, in the middle of a pine forest. The rooms are extra comfy. Â

Loutraki
Loutraki is the coastal town next to Glossa. It’s the other main port in Skopelos. The bus from Skopelos Town to Glossa stops here. It’s a short ride through hills.
The beach itself is next to the port. However, it’s super quiet. We usually walk to the Roman baths and the rocky beaches to the south. The area is always empty!
Skiathos is in front of Loutraki. That’s why the water here is so calm. You can take the ferry and arrive in Skiathos in less than an hour.
We Recommend These Hotels in Loutraki

We will never forget our time at the Sea View Hotel. Our room had a balcony with sea views. Our hosts Nick and Poppy gave us the best tips ever!
Hotel Selenunda
Hotel Selenunda offers huge studios and apartments with fully equipped kitchens and balconies overlooking the sea. It’s just meters from the port. Stay here if you are traveling to Skopelos with friends and family.

Glossa
Glossa is Skopelos’ second largest town. It’s still pretty small. Take note that it is not on the coast, but on a hill towering above the sea.
Stay in Glossa if you are into traditional Greek towns. The place is super authentic. A lush green forest with trees surrounds it all. When we walk, we can see the sea at every turn.
Glossa is the best place to stay in Skopelos if you are into trekking. We always cross the forest to go to the Monastery of Taxiarhes, up on a hill.

How Many Days in Skopelos
Skopelos enjoys great weather all year round. Since it has a small permanent population, you can visit at all times. We’ve been in winter and had a great time.
Granted, we didn’t bathe, but we did spend a lot of time on the beach and walking. That said, you are probably wondering how many days are needed in Skopelos to cover the basics.
We believe you should spend at least 3 days on the island. If you love the beach, stay in Stafylos. If you have more time, move around the island and discover all the beaches.

Skopelos vs Skiathos
We always get asked about our favorite islands in Greece. In particular, if we like Skopelos or Skiathos better. We always answer, we love them both.
However, we believe Skopelos is better if you are into nature. The island’s forests are epic! Besides, it’s very quiet and family oriented. Not many places to party here.
Skiathos is famous for its gorgeous beaches. Granted, most beaches have beach bars with music and more activities, but there are super quiet ones too. Bigger resorts for more upbeat tourists populate Skiathos.
