Where to Stay in Delphi (Greece): the Best Hotels and Areas
Most people visit Delphi on a day trip from Athens. The city is 178 kilometers (111 miles) from the Greek capital, and frequent buses make it a convenient destination.
However, spending a night or two in Delphi allows you to truly feel the magic of this ancient place. Most tourists leave in the afternoon, so you’ll have the town mostly to yourself.
Besides, since most visitors arrive around midday, you can explore the archaeological site early in the morning without the crowds. It’s a win-win!
Delphi Town
Delphi Town is the main settlement next to the archaeological site. The town itself is fairly new, so there aren’t many historical buildings, but the views are absolutely breathtaking.
Apart from the famous archaeological site, be sure to visit the Museum of Delphic Festivals and the European Cultural Center of Delphi, located at the edge of town.
Delphi is full of excellent restaurants and bars, so you won’t go hungry or thirsty. Two churches are also worth visiting: Saint Nicholas and Saint Constantine.

Outside of Town
If you’re a nature lover, consider staying just outside Delphi. The town is surrounded by lush hills and green forests with plenty of scenic hiking trails.
Another nearby option is Chryso, a picturesque village only 2 km (1.2 miles) from Delphi. It’s a wonderful place to experience authentic Greek village life, far from the tourist crowds.
Keep in mind: there’s no public transport to these areas, so you’ll need to rent a car or hire a private driver.

How Long to Stay in Delphi
If your goal is just to see the archaeological site, one full day and an overnight stay are enough. Add an extra day if you enjoy hiking.
That said, we recommend staying longer to explore the region. The beautiful coastal town of Galaxidi is just 32 km (20 miles) away and is well off the beaten path. Nafpaktos is a bit farther but absolutely worth the trip.
If you’re visiting Delphi in winter, consider staying 4–5 days. Enjoy the historical sites for 1-2 days, and then spend 2-3 days skiing or relaxing in Arachova.
