Sifnos is everything a Greek island should be. The not so touristy island boasts blue crystalline water, pristine beaches, lovely nature, cute little towns, delicious food, 300 churches, historic buildings, archaeology, and incredible hospitality. Located a couple of hours away from Athens, the island is part of the Cyclades, in the heart of the Aegean Sea.
We discovered it few years ago and have been back several times. Though it isn’t that big, it is very diverse. Where to stay in Sifnos depends on your interests and taste. There is nothing to worry about. Sifnos has hotels for solo travelers, families, couples, and friends. We selected the best for you!
Apollonia and Artemonas
Artemonas and Apollonia are two sister towns up in the hills of Sifnos, pretty close to each other and the sea. With its cobblestoned streets lined with trees, Artemonas is the quiet sister. All you have to do is walk about the churches and discover windmills. The views from Artemonas to Kastro and the church of Panagea Poulati are unforgettable.
Apollonia is the capital of Sifnos and has more accommodation options. Different restaurants, bars, and cafes line its streets, lending it a bit more of a cosmopolitan flare. Kastro
Kastro with its incredible castle is considered the jewel of Sifnos. Everything is authentic, pretty, and quaint. The little town is perched on a cliff overlooking the sea and other lovely towns. What we love about Kastro is that it’s car-free and 2 km (1.2 miles) from Apollonia and Artemonas.
The town has just a couple of restaurants and hotels. Unlike its neighbors, it’s very quiet and peaceful. You may find yourself completely alone while walking about its streets. At the foot of Kastro, lies Seralia, a tiny fishing dock with a couple of tavernas and a pebbled beach.

Aris & Maria Houses
If you are looking for comfort, views, and authenticity, book a room at Aris & Maria Houses. The house hangs from the cliff and offers gorgeous views. Rooms have a lot of character and modern-day conveniences. If you want to have proper Wi-Fi, be sure to tell the hotel. This is an isolated house in the middle of a hill, so Wi-Fi can be tricky. Your hosts will treat you like a king!

Motivo
In Motivo, each room comes with a kitchenette, TV, and a balcony with lovely views of the mountains and a glimpse of the sea. This big traditional house is tastefully decorated and spacious. Kamares Beach
Kamares is the main port in Sifnos, where ferries from Athens arrive. Besides, boats from the nearby islands operate during the summer. What makes Kamares special are the two huge hills that protect it from the wind. This is probably the best place to stay if you are traveling solo around Greece.
Kamares beach is the longest in Sifnos. Since it’s sandy and shallow, it’s the best beach if you have kids. Shops and hotels line its streets. You will find the world-famous Sifnos ceramics here. For food, try the great restaurants overlooking the port. The northern part of the town is car-free, fantastic to walkabout.

Delfini Hotel
Delfini is the last hotel overlooking Sifnos port. That’s why the views are so cool. You have to walk some 10 minutes to get to the beach. However, you can access a small beach directly from the hotel to swim! They have an infinity pool too. Rooms come with all modern-day conveniences and sea views. The best have a private hot tub.

Platis Gialos Beach
One of the most popular beaches in the south of Sifnos, Platis Gialos offers crystalline shallow waters. This is a long and narrow sandy beach with no trees, but loads of bars, sunbeds, and umbrellas to choose from.
Other than the beach, you can visit two superb monasteries. Chrisopigi is next to the sea, while Panagia Tou Vounou is up the hill. It’s also worth climbing to Aspros Pirgos, an ancient tower overlooking the beach. Platis Gialos is also popular for treks to cute little towns and secluded coves.

Vathi Beach
The small fishing village of Vathi is a Mecca for trekkers. Since the north of the port is unpopulated and hilly, it offers splendid views, especially killer sunsets. The town itself has no streets, so almost everything has a sea view.
Vathi is a bay with shallow water, fine sand, and a couple of trees for shade. To some, it is the best beach in Sifnos. In fact, the only 5-star resort on the island is here. You have a couple of tavernas and bars offering delicious food, sunbeds, and umbrellas.

Faros Beach
To the south of Sifnos, we find Faros, a charming little town with three beaches. Fassolou, Faros, and Vlycho are a step away from the center of the town. Faros Beach offers the best view of the Monastery of Chrisopigi on the rock by the sea. Fassolou is a sandy little bay perfect to be on your own and with killer sunsets.
The island’s most famous trek starts from Vlycho beach and leads you all the way to the Monastery of Chrisopigi and the Church of Agios Charalampos. What we love the most about Faros, is that its three beaches have no wind!
