The Best Time to Visit Rhodes
Rhodes is one of our favorite islands. We’ve visited in all seasons and always had a great time. The island has it all: spectacular nature, UNESCO sites, delicious food, fantastic hotels and warm hosts.
Rhodes Town with its ancient sites will take your breath away. Lindos is one of Greece’s most beautiful towns. Besides, the island has several beaches you can enjoy all through the year.
Therefore, the right time to visit Rhodes depends on your tastes and fancies. The following is our analysis of the 4 seasons. Pick the right one, and you will fall in love with Rhodes!
Spring
Spring in Rhodes is from March to May. During March and April, the lowest temperature hovers around mid-50s °F (12-13 °C), while the highest average hits 60 °F (15-16 °C). May is a bit warmer, 60s lows °F (15-18 °C), 70s high °F (21-24 °C).
The sun shines almost every day and it hardly ever rains. Though we didn’t bathe, we did enjoy walking almost alone along the beach, even at night.
Prices in spring are lower than during the summer. Almost every hotel and restaurant is open. All public buses operate but with fewer frequencies in March and April.
Summer
Rhodes is not that hot during the summer. The average day temperature is around 80 °F (27 °C). Nights are slightly cooler but fresh and windy. It never rains, and the sun shines every day.
Don’t expect huge crowds in June, but July and August are packed with tourists. Thus, prices can be high. Everything is open and the vibe is great.
Summer is a great time to visit if you like the sea and partying. There are lots of restaurants and bars that open late into the night. Historic sites and other attractions open till the early in the evening.
Fall (Autumn)
From September to October the weather in Rhodes is splendid. The average temperature in September and October is around 75 °F (24 °C), while in November 60 °F (16 °C). The sea is warm in September and October.
There are fewer visitors in September, and even less in October and November. Hotel prices can be lower. Everything is open, but less hours and with fewer frequencies as from October.
Visit Rhodes in fall if you want to be warm and like the beach. Likewise, if you don’t mind some people but don’t like huge crowds.
Winter
Compared to the rest of Europe, Rhodes has mild winters. The temperature at nights is in the low 50s °F (10-12 °C), and during the day high 50s °F (14-16 °C). It rains, but doesn’t pour, in January and February.
The sea is cold and there can be cloudy days. There are far less tourists than the rest of the year and some hotels and restaurants do close. No worries, you still have plenty of options to choose from.
Winter is the best time to travel if you don’t like crowds and can’t stand the heat. Besides, you can take advantage of lower prices. If you visit in winter, you should stay in Rhodes Town.
Which Season is Best in Rhodes
Our favorite months to visit Rhodes are June, September and October. You get the best of both worlds: fewer crowds and fantastic weather. Everything is open, and you get to save some money.
The beaches are fantastic in Rhodes but July and August are crowded and expensive. However, if you want to socialize, meet people, and enjoy the sea, you will have a great time.
Now, if you want peace and quiet, winters are perfect. We spent a couple of weeks in January almost alone in Rhodes. Since it was cheaper, we were able to stay longer.
