Where to Stay in Rhodes Town

The Old Town

Rhodes Old Town is amongst the greatest historic cores in the entire world. Therefore, staying here is always a great idea. Granted, it can be very crowded in high season. However, since the cruise tourists only visit during the day, nights in the Old Town are magical.

If you visit during off season you have to stay here. Far less people visit from October to April, so you will be able to enjoy this world class beauty with a lot of space. You have several centuries of history to discover, and countless bars and restaurants to try out.

We Recommend These Hotels in the Old Town:

S. Nikolis Boutique Hotel

Our favorite hotel in the Old Town is the S. Nikolis Historic Boutique Hotel, built on top of the remains of the Ancient Agora! The 800 year old fireplace is gorgeous! The service is impeccable. Due to its location on a side street, it’s pretty quiet.

10GR Boutique Hotel & Wine Bar

If you are into wine, fine dining, and Greek icons, stay at the 10GR Boutique Hotel & Wine Bar. It’s also a historic stone house. Each room is dedicated to world famous Greeks. The onsite restaurant is one of the best on the island. They have a collection of over 250 Greek wines!

Elli Beach

Elli Beach is the nicest beach in the center of Rhodes. Hence, it’s the best place to stay during the summer. Elli is a mile (1.8 km) north of the Old Town. You can walk from one to the other in less than half an hour. It’s a lovely walk along the coast.

Since it’s a peninsula, the beach has two sections. The one west (Akti Miaouli) is perfect for sunsets, while the tip is very windy. Rhodes Aquarium is there. The area around Elli (on the east) is interesting too. The Rhodes Contemporary Museum is there, next to Gavriil Haritos Park.

We Recommend These Hotels in Elli Beach:

Grande Albergo Delle Rose

The Grande Albergo Delle Rose is directly on the Elli Beach. The 5 star property has everything you dreamed off, including a gorgeous spa with a hammam under a dome. The hotel has its own lounges and beach umbrellas.

Mediterranean Hotel

We stayed in a sea view room at the Mediterranean Hotel and loved it. The hotel faces Elli Beach and is within walking distance to the Old Town. Every room has a big balcony with a table and chairs. The complimentary breakfast is delicious.

Elli Beach Neighborhood

Niohori

Niohori is the area between the Old Town and the Elli Beach. It faces both Akti Miaouli Beach, and Elli Beach. The area is perfect for walking. You can walk to Elli beach in no time and to the Old town in 20 minutes.

Though not historic, it’s full of restaurants and bars. Niohori caters to locals. Thus, we believe its restaurants and bars are more authentic. We enjoyed walking about its pedestrian streets and mingling with the locals. The hotels in Niohori are great value for money. Rhodes bus station is here.

We Recommend These Hotels in Niohori:

Sperveri Boutique Hotel

The Sperveri Boutique Hotel is perfect for couples. It’s in the heart of Niohori, within walking distance to everything. The rooms are extra comfy and elegant. It has a cute garden with a pool and the warmest service ever. We loved the complimentary breakfast.

Mitsis La Vita

You won’t find better room at a lower price than at the Mitsis La Vita. We stayed with family and had a great time. The hotel faces Akti Miaouli Beach and has a pool. You can walk to Elli Beach in a matter of minutes.

Monte Smith

Monte Smith (aka St. Stephens Hill) is the best area to stay if you want to be out of the touristy areas. The hill is next to the coast. However, you can’t bathe here but walk along the cliffs and massive stones.

The Ancient Acropolis and the Ancient Stadium of Rhodes are here. You can walk on top of the hill along Isiodou Street admiring breathtaking views. Access to the Old Town is through Saint Anthony and Saint Athanasios gates, just 10 minutes from Monte Smith.

We Recommend These Hotels in Monte Smith:

Rodos Park

If you have the money to splurge, do so at the Rodos Park hotel. The 5 star property is in the heart of Monte Smith. It’s got a lush green garden with a pool. Every room has a balcony with fantastic views.

Castellum Suites – All Inclusive

Considering its class and location, the Castellum Suites All Inclusive Hotel is great value for money. The rooms face splendid gardens and come with a balcony. The food is delicious and varied. It has a pool and free parking!
